 THE PERSONAL BEST CONTEST

Have you ever wished you could show off all that you’ve learned this summer? Know what it’s like to compete in wakeboarding? Meet other School of Wake students? Here is your opportunity!

IMG_7173Kirby’s School of Wake is hosting its sixth annual wakeboarding contest on Saturday, September 21st. The contest is open to all ages and ability levels and features Kirby’s signature contest format. Riders are judged on how close they get to accomplishing their predetermined, personal best on their wakeboard. Accomplish your personal best to be crowned the winner of your division.

At Kirby’s School of Wake we are all about progress over perfection. This is our way to encourage our students to showcase what progress they’ve made over the summer rather than just comparing their skills to others.

“What is a run?”  A run is a list of specific tricks each rider plans to perform in order. (The number of required tricks for each division is listed below.)

WHAT TO BRING

Please bring your wakeboard and lifejacket if you have one. Also good things to bring: towel, camera, snacks, and floaties. If you don’t have a wakeboard or jacket, please email Sydney at sydney@kirbysschoolofwake.com and we can bring equipment for you.

DIVISIONS

Evaluate the Kirby’s School of Wake Achievement Program to determine your skill level. Click HERE to view the achievement levels. Your color coordinates with a division and its respective number of required tricks below.

  1. Beginner Wakeboard: Blue (4 tricks)
  2. Intermediate Wakeboard: Green (6 tricks)
  3. Expert Wakeboard: Orange, Silver, and Gold (8 tricks)
  4. Wake Surf Division: All Ability Levels

LOCATION & DIRECTIONS

The contest takes place out in Long Cove (where we normally do our lessons). We encourage our customers to boat out, tie up off to the side, and enjoy the day on the water! We will also have the Iguana Party Barge available for those who don’t have access to a boat (space is limited and you may want to bring a lawn chair for added seating). We will also be serving up some complimentary snacks and water on board the Party Barge as a thank you to our customers for a great summer!

Practice Rides and Check-in will be at Iguana Watersports in Osage Beach.

REGISTRATION

To register, purchase a ticket for each participant on the bottom of this page. Participants may compete in both the wakeboarding and wakesurfing division. Please have your liability waiver, photo release, and trick list when checking in the day of the event.

Spend the day hanging out with us even if you don’t plan to participate. Awards will be given on the Party Barge following the competition out in the cove.

DISCOUNTED LESSONS/PRACTICE RIDES

Contestants have the option to take a 15-minute lesson with Kirby. This can be done from 8:00am-1:00pm the morning of the contest. Kirby will also help riders construct their runs for the contest during this time. Please email Sydney if you plan to participate in the practice.

Awakin your passion, purpose, and potential at this three day, Kirby’s School of Wake day camp! Awakin is designed to create an atmosphere for campers to grow their passion for wakeboarding/wakesurfing with top notch instruction, gain a greater understanding of their purpose with faith based messages and influences, and to seek their full potential.

Space is limited to twenty campers. First come, first serve. We accept campers aged 18 and under. Campers will be divided into four ride groups (based on ability level – click HERE to determine skill level) and each camper will receive five wakeboarding/wakesurfing lessons, lunch, and the opportunity to compete. Over the lunch break, campers will be allowed to swim, do a short team building exercise and hear a faith based message. Be ready to cheer on others learning in your ride group, because on the last afternoon of camp, ride groups will compete as a team in a personal best contest. Each camper will compete to achieve their personal best tricks. We will combine the scores of each ride group and the ride group scoring the highest will receive a prize.

We encourage campers to bring their own wakeboards/lifejackets; however, if you don’t have them, no problem! Simply let us know on the registration form and we will get you all taken care of. Also, as this is not an overnight camp, please let us know if you need help finding accommodations.

Wakeboarding Doesn’t Have to Hurt

By | Blog
In our world, we’re often told that by the time we’re forty or (fill in the blank) we are supposed to hang up many of the activities we participated in and enjoyed from our youth. We’re trained to believe that by that particular time of life, our bodies will hurt and ache and as a result, we will be sidelined from the things we once loved.

Malibu WWA Rider Experience

Regional Wakeboard & Wakesurf Competition

This summer, the Lake of the Ozarks is excited to host a Malibu WWA Rider Experience. Hosted by Iguana and Stateamind, the Malibu WWA Rider Experience is a series of regionally placed amateur events around the US for all WWA amateur divisions and Jr. Pro Men’s. We encourage our students and team riders to take part in this special opportunity to compete. There are wakeboard and wake surf divisions. It’s not often that contests like this are so close to home, so we’d love to see everyone out there competing or coming out to support the riders. This event will also draw in some of the best Jr. Pro Men riders along with Pro Riders striving to receive their pro card qualification.

Each Rider Experience event is open to all riders, however, all riders must compete in their respective WWA Regional Championships (this event) to be invited to the 2018 WWA Wakeboard National Championships.

All Amateur Competitors – Seeding for the WWA Wakeboard National Championships will be based on competing in the Malibu WWA Rider Experience Regional Championships. If you are competing in the 2018 WWA Wakeboard National Championships and were 1st in your division in 2017 then you will be top seed.  All other riders will be seeded from the WWA  Regional Championships.

Any rider can compete at any and all Malibu WWA Rider Experience Events. Riders will only receive seeding when competing in their region.

Register before June 21, 2018 by 4:00pm to prevent paying late registration fees. REGISTER HERE

MotoSurf World Cup

By | Blog
Having a wakeboarding school in Fort Myers, I like to make myself available to learn about other watersports. One of those sports happened to be at the Pro Watercross World Championship held on October 27-29 in Naples, Florida. I know what you are thinking and it’s probably one of two things: a) what in the world is watercross? OR b) what does this have to do with wakeboarding? Read More
