Mid June, Kirby was invited to coach a clinic with the Lake Lotawana Ski Club. Lake Lotawana is a private lake located east of Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Kirby jumped at the special opportunity to help inject his passion for wakeboarding into this group. This small, quaint community is a hidden gem in Missouri. The lake is filled with fun loving families who simply love lake life. Kids on the lake spend their summers on the water with their friends busy with activities including sailing lessons and trolling over to Ski Club in the evenings.
This was Lake Lotawana’s first ever wakeboarding clinic and it was one to remember. Kirby performed a short riding exhibition for the group and 18 enthusiastic skiers received lessons that day. From learning the basics of getting up for the first time to working on wake-to-wake jumps, this group was able to see success all day long.
As we idled back into the dock, ready to pack up, we were amazed to see the area bustling with activity as Ski Club began their evening riding and activities. It was incredible to view the talent there as the kids skied in groups and worked on tricks. Not often do you see a group of kids away from their phones and excited to just be outside having fun with their friends. It was at that moment that we quickly remembered the power of watersports in its ability to bring families and communities together…to learn, to build fellowship, and to have fun!
We are so thankful to Jessica Rauber and the Lake Lotawana Ski Club for bringing us out to the lake to spend the day with them. It was truly a treat and a trip we hope to be able to do again sometime.
